END OF PLAY
CG LEAD & ON SET VFX SUPERVISOR
End Of Play is a short film directed by Edem Wornoo that follows a main character who needs to create a world by end of play or his head will explode! Leading this project FX wise was extremely exciting with there already being so much of a sense of world narratively to work with.
I led creating the galaxies and a keen team of 6 artists within Coffee & TV design studio to materialize these beautiful worlds in glass cases, zoom shots and of course head explosions that I’ve left off this page for the sake of viewer discretion…!
I wanted each ‘hero’ galaxy to represent each character, using blues for the senior creative Clement who is depicted as the most intelligent and competent technically. Then using more reds and blues for Seven the main character who’s depicted as deeply creative and passionate. He has an obsession with creating ‘Earth’ and a golden egg of the film is in his name of ‘Seven’ playing on the amount of days it took biblically to create the Earth. I thought this was also important to display visibly depicted in the zoom into his galaxy where you see the Earth and zoom back out to land that incentive.
SIMULATION PLANET RND
This project spanned a wide range of technical skills and trial and error, including Houdini particle and velocity driven simulations to create the galaxies themselves. In this video you can see renders of these experiments that had built up to land me at the nebula forms seen in the final deliverables.
Alongside the visible design aspect I had also been responsible for tracking all of the objects and cameras, I had been on set for the shoot as the VFX supervisor and this enabled me to make the necessary preparations marker wise. I tracked the physical glass cases, the heads of those who would end up exploding using 3Dequaliser that outputted a CG mesh for fellow artists to then work and build from.
FINAL DELIVERABLES
BALEBA X WONDERKIDS
A fun in-house project that required quick turn around, the brief was to make this shot more interesting and filling the space. I used these CG footballs at different distances to the camera with different motions to achieve this
SCIFI CHANNEL IDENT
This is another in-house Coffee & TV project that had a very loose brief the only criteria of course being related to the Scifi genre and also they wanted a play on illusion in regards to perspective and focal point. I made this Houdini simulation using particles and driving the ones closest to the camera to move at different speed to the background creating this parallax in which there are particles you can focus on closest to the camera but through use of the light placement you are inevitable led to focus at the centre where the sci fi logo lands.
BRYSON TILLER X FILMAWI - MUSIC VIDEO FX
An in house Coffee and TV project requiring light streams I created in Houdini also using a CG tracked car to build from.
ESCAPE STUDIOS - SHORT FILM PROJECTS MODELS, CHARACTER DESIGN, UNIVERSITY PROJECTS
These are characters I modeled and sculpted in CG for my final year of university these were great projects where I grew technically and required creating them efficiently being the first in line of the pipeline I had to ensure they were done well within a short space of time so animation and compositing could begin in their process.
This project also taught me how to use crowd simulate which required creating 4 variations of butterflies in which I chose colors that could exist coherently and complimented each other but are also different enough to differentiate
THE THERAPIST - FULL CG TRANSITION
A short film by director Akwasi that takes place in a barbershop, this transition was created in Houdini where I replicated the groom of afro hair and created a camera move in 3D space that followed clippers I modeled and animated in Maya, this was a great challenge to start from scratch in having no video material for this shot so created the illusions entirely digitally.
CEES PICKEY - SOCIAL MEDIA ASSET
Cees Pickney is an upcoming book release, the director approached me wanting to create excitement about the release. We landed on having the book title shaved into his hair, this was designed in Photoshop and then tracked onto the head within Nuke compositing software
VIRGIN ATLANTIC X THE THERAPIST - SOCIAL MEDIA ASSET
This shot required lighting and modeling a CG plane and creating a dynamic camera move within Maya. This put realism skills to the test and was a great challenge
